About FishCheat

Know before you go.

Why we built this

Planning a Utah fishing trip means juggling three questions: Was it stocked recently? Can I actually get to the water? What are conditions like right now? The answers live in three different places — DWR stocking reports, USGS gauges, and weather forecasts — and none of them talk to each other.

FishCheat puts all three on one page for every waterbody. It's built for Utah shore anglers, families, and beginners who just want to know where the fish are and how to get there — not another social feed or a boat-only chartplotter. Practical, local, no fluff.

How to read the map

Each pin is a fishing spot, colored by how recently it was stocked. Fresh stockings mean more — and more catchable — fish in the water.

  • Green — stocked in the last 3 days
  • Orange — stocked in the last 2 weeks
  • Gray — older, or no recent stocking on record

Use the filters above the map to narrow by region, water type, species, or access — shore fishing, boat ramp, wheelchair access, and restrooms. Click any pin for a quick summary, or open its spot page for the full picture.

What's a Blue Ribbon water?

Blue Ribbonis an official Utah DWR designation for the state's premier fisheries — waters that offer an exceptional angling experience based on fish quality, catch rates, scenery, and access. Think Strawberry, the Green River below Flaming Gorge, or the middle Provo. They're the waters Utah is known for.

We read the designation straight from DWR's data, so the ★ Blue Ribbon badge on a spot page is the real thing. Use the Blue Ribbon filter on the map to see them all at a glance.

The look

We dressed FishCheat as a heritage field guide — warm parchment and pine green by day, a deep-water charcoal at night, with brass accents throughout. Tap the sun/moon in the top corner to switch; your choice sticks. It's meant to feel like a well-worn guidebook, not another glowing dashboard.

Where the data comes from

Everything on FishCheat is built from public, authoritative sources. We always show how old a piece of data is, and never hide a stale forecast behind a fresh-looking label.

  • Utah DWR — stocking reports, fishing forecasts, and regulations, synced nightly.
  • USGS Water Services — live streamflow for river and creek spots.
  • Open-Meteo — current weather at each waterbody.

FishCheat is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Always confirm current regulations and buy your license before you fish.
