Right in Town (Under 15 Minutes)
Provo River

The Lower Provo — from Deer Creek Dam down through Provo to Utah Lake — is one of the premier trout rivers in the Intermountain West. Wild Brown Trout over 20 inches are caught regularly in the canyon stretch between Bridal Veil Falls and the Orem area. It's a blue-ribbon fishery with heavily stocked sections for beginners and technical fly water for experienced anglers.
The Upper Provo above Jordanelle Reservoir is more accessible for beginners and less pressured.
Utah Lake

Deer Creek Reservoir

This is Provo's biggest advantage over SLC anglers. Deer Creek is practically in your backyard — head north on US-189 through Heber Valley and you're there in 25 minutes. The Walleye fishing is the best of any Utah reservoir — big fish, and they light up during the evening bite spring through fall. Rainbow Trout are stocked heavily each spring. The view of Mount Timpanogos across the water is hard to beat.
Jordanelle Reservoir

Continue past Deer Creek on US-40 toward Park City and you hit Jordanelle. Full state park with multiple boat ramps and consistent stocking. The Rock Creek Arm is particularly productive early in the morning for trout. Summer bass fishing on rocky structure is excellent.
Tibble Fork Reservoir

Strawberry Reservoir

From Provo, take US-6 east to US-40 south — you're at Strawberry in about 65 minutes. That's 25 minutes faster than the drive from Salt Lake City. Utah's best reservoir, and Provo is the closest major city to it.
17,000 acres of cold, clear water holding enormous Bonneville Cutthroat and heavy rainbow stockings. If you haven't fished Strawberry from a boat in spring or fall, it belongs at the top of your list.

Scofield Reservoir

Take US-6 over the Price Canyon summit and drop into the coalfields — Scofield sits at 7,600 feet and holds exceptionally healthy rainbow trout.
